Eligibility Criteria
If you're ready to apply, here are a few things you'll need to know. For more detailed information course dates, fees and funding, click on the links on the left hand side.
Citizenship
To study at Health Skills Australia you need to be an Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident, Special Category Visa holder (sub-class 444, NZ citizen), East Timorese Asylum Seeker or Temporary Protection Visa holder.
Proof of Identity
All applicants must present photo ID clearly showing your date of birth i.e. licence or passport. A certified copy should be provided with your application; otherwise the original will need to be sighted at interview or orientation.
Police Check
All applicants are required to provide evidence of a recent Police check. To obtain your Police check:
• In Victoria, complete the online form at www.police.vic.gov.au > Our Services > Police Record Checks.
• In Queensland, visit your local police station with sufficient ID (current driver’s licence, passport or other photo ID).
• In New South Wales, complete the online form at www.police.nsw.gov.au > Services > Criminal Records > Forms.
Working with Children Check
If you are studying Nursing or Mental Health, a Working with Children check (Blue Card in QLD) is also required. To obtain your Working with Children check:
• In Victoria, visit your local Post Office where forms are available. Complete the application as a ‘Volunteer’ working under occupational code 52, and submit it at the Post Office.
• In Queensland, forms are available at www.ccypcg.qld.gov.au > Forms > New Applicants & Renewals > Volunteers & Students > Student Blue Card Application Form. Forms will also be made available by Health Skills Australia at interviews.
• In New South Wales, complete the online form at https://check.kids.nsw.gov.au/volunteer-declaration.php.
Literacy & Numeracy
Students wishing to enrol in a course must successfully complete a Literacy & Numeracy test, unless a recent pass in Year 12 English and Maths has been achieved in the past 2 years. If you hold a qualification higher than what you are applying for testing may not be required.
For Victorian Students, testing must be completed through VETASSESS. Please make your booking direct via their website at www.vetassess.com.au where a $50 fee will apply. To prepare for testing we recommend you view a sample of the test and numeracy preparation guide available on their website.
In Brisbane, tests are held regularly for Health Skills Australia applicants free of charge. Free tests are hosted at our CBD campus at Level 2, 410 Ann St, Brisbane. To book your place, call 1300 306 886.
