Nurses are in high demand worldwide and the current workforce is ageing. We need new highly trained nurses to care for our future patients but many people are having trouble getting into a course to study nursing. Health Skills Australia (HSA) can help you enter this rewarding profession. We are looking for students to enroll in the Certificate IV in Nursing HLT43407. After you have successfully completed this course you may register as a Medication Endorsed Division 2 Nurse with the Nurses Board of Victoria.
Course Delivery
The course duration is 4 x 20 week semesters mainly one day per week of face to face delivery supported by self-directed learning either online or by written workbooks. A series of two week blocks of clinical placements are intermixed between the theory and classroom based practical sessions as required.
The course consists of 19 units of varying lengths and 320 hours of clinical placements in a variety of healthcare settings. However, the number of clinical hours organized by HSA will depend upon the funding arrangement of the individual student.
Total nominal hours are 1018. (See Course Units table to the right)
Selection Criteria
Students must possess adequate literacy and numeracy skills in order to manage the demands of the course. We require you to undergo testing with VETASSESS at a time and date organized by that company.

Assessments
A variety of methods are used throughout this course such as presentation/class discussions; assignments; practical demonstrations; short tests; essays; workbooks and case studies. Each unit is assessed in the classroom / practical lab and in the clinical setting to determine a student is competent against the elements/ performance criteria.
Credit Transfer/ Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
RPL, RCC or Credit Transfer may be granted to students who have completed units of competency that directly match the Health Training Package units. This will be reviewed on an individual basis and the student must apply on the appropriate forms and include all the necessary supporting documentation. A fee for this assessment is applicable.
Student Requirements for Clinical Placements
There will be a series of two week Monday to Friday blocks of clinical placement throughout the two year course which you must be available to attend. These may involve morning or evening shifts depending upon the clinical facilities availability.
A Victorian Police Check is a requirement of the Department of Human Services (DHS) for all healthcare students on clinical placements and you must apply for this on enrolment into the course. You will also need to follow up your immunization status as per DHS guidelines for a Category A Healthcare worker.

Employment & Further Study Opportunities
Division 2/Enrolled Nurses work in conjunction with Registered Nurses Division 1 to deliver high quality care to the public in a variety of healthcare settings. Graduates may apply for positions in Acute, Aged, Rehabilitation, Mental Health & Community care workplaces.
Articulation is possible to Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Degree level programs in Nursing and this is assessed on an individual basis by the educational provider.
